September 2020

Today CERT participated in the Search & Rescue training with the New Milford Police, New Milford Ambulance, and Fire Departments from Sherman, New Milford and Northville. The training took place at the Candlelight Farms Airport in New Milford, CT.

The scene started with a briefing by the Water Witch Hose Company who also provided everyone constant news and updates throughout the event. New Milford CERT’s job was primarily to handle accountability and rehabilitation for first responders while other CERT members joined the search teams. The search area was about 50 acres and the victim was found in roughly 2 1/2 hours.

New Milford Police Officer Mark Williams and his K9 Duke participated in the search to help find the missing victim. The New Milford Police also brought in the Helicopter while the Fire Departments provided the vehicles, equipment and expertise which insured a successful outcome.

NM CERT would like to thank Candlelight Farms Airport for allowing us to use their property for staging the search and for providing everyone lunch.  We would also like to thank the Water Witch Hose Co. #2 Fire Department for allowing NM CERT to participate.
